The role of Chief Operating Officer will be an integral part of our organisation over the coming years – joining the senior management team and enhancing our strategic capacity and expertise.

I think it’s an incredibly exciting career move. As an organisation, we hold an enviable amount of sector experience and insight – and operate across a hugely diverse portfolio. But we recognise that there is an opportunity to be more cohesive and efficient across this range of work – to build resilience, to get more from our shared resources and to ensure an even better offer to our customers and members. This new role will ensure a dedicated senior lead to making this happen.

It will suit someone with a curious mindset, who will ask questions of established practice and be able to excite others with the possibilities doing things differently. It requires a breadth of perspective to appreciate the full range of our work and its interdependencies. And it demands a wholehearted commitment to and passion for local democracy and the role of local authorities in supporting vibrant and sustainable communities.

With lead responsibility across all of our corporate functions it’s a hugely varied personal portfolio. But fundamentally it will be about harnessing the full potential of people and technology and adopting a systems thinking approach that enables our team to achieve more – drawing on their expertise and creating the systems and processes that enable better corporate and cross-disciplinary work.
